Has your role changed since you’ve been here?
Yes! It has evolved and become more focused on my specialist area which is mobilisation and design for management for new build/conversion properties with estate management in mind. When I joined Navana, I headed up the Property and Asset team overseeing our team of Surveyors delivering day to day management across our portfolio in addition to my current focus.
What’s your favourite part about working here?
The people, the places and making a difference to the industry. If I had to pick one it would be our people. There is a wealth of knowledge and expertise within Navana plus a few drinking buddies and star bakers 😊
What will be the post-COVID-19 impact on our industry?
For the residential industry we have been lucky in that it has largely been unaffected in comparison to say retail. People have needed their homes more than ever and we have seen and adapted to the shift in working from home and the demands brought with it. That said, there have been numerous changes to the way in which we manage our portfolio in direct response to the pandemic for example enhanced hygiene regimes and working regulations.
Design for management has stalled somewhat with delays to construction projects however it’s the perfect opportunity to make use of the time to ensure layouts, amenities and strategies are relevant, efficient and affordable.
What is the greatest challenge the industry is facing?
People’s values and needs have changed exponentially and this has been driven by the shift in businesses needing a traditional office working environment to working from home which in turn has changed people’s needs of their homes. It will be interesting to see what happens to the commercial/office industry long term and how homes will incorporate demands on technology, connectivity and amenities.
Can you describe the working culture at NPG?
Typically the estate management industry is reactive and at Navana this is more agile than I have experienced in my career to date which is refreshing and exciting to be able to adapt to environmental changes and needs of our customers. We work collaboratively and empower individuals and teams to deliver a meaningful management whether that be service, community, experience or lifestyle led.
What interests or hobbies do you have outside of work?
For me, exercising at the gym or going for a run along the river, have done wonders for my fitness and strength training, but also my mental health and wellbeing which have been particularly essential the past year or so.
What’s the best and worst thing about working from home?
As its only me and the cat at home it can be a little isolating at times and its easy to fall out of the typical working day routine i.e. getting up to catch the train. However, on occasions that does have its perks and I find certain projects/tasks such as service charge budget calculation more productive without the distractions of colleagues and the office environment. I love having the flexibility, trust and IT capability to be in the office, at home or on site.
